Webdesk, TNI Islampur, 1st April, 2017: In view of the Supreme Court Order of closing down liquor shops adjacent to the National and State Highways, the customs office today closed those shops at Islampur today that were located within 500 meters from the Highways. The Renewal of the licenses was also put on hold at this time. The sellers were informed that the license will only be renewed if the shops are shifted from the area. A total of 49 liquor shops were closed today in Uttar Dinajpur district. Under Islampur range itself at least 30 such shops were closed. In such a situation the district customs department is losing at around 85-90% of the revenue from those establishments. However, though the traders are at a loss but they have assured that they will abide by the Supreme Court verdict and will transfer their shops away from the National and State Highways.
